Tomato puree in shepherds pie????

What is with that?! Every shepherds pie recipe ive seen lately has included tinned tomatoes or puree, surely that just on its way to be a bolognese??

I can admit that baked beans on the side of it is nice but to put it in as an ingredient?? :confused:

    A tomato or 2 would add some flavour, which tomato (when its cooked and concentrated down) is very good at, but yeah a whole tin of tomatos you've near enough got Bolognese pie :)

    ETA Actually you wouldn't get Bolognese coz Shepherd's Pie is lamb so you'd get Lamognese :)
