Wear black to a wedding?

I'm going to my cousins wedding in December and bought the rest of my outfit yesterday. I've got a navy blue dress and a black jacket with black shoes and black clutch bag, and am probably going to wear tights and get some costume jewellery. I put the outfit on to show my husband and whilst he likes it he said he didn't think it was appropriate to wear black? I thought that as it is a winter wedding it would be ok. What do you think? I wanted to get something that I would wear again rather than buy a whole new outfit just to wear once.

However, could you get something that would be suitable to the wedding, but you wouldn't then use till into next year. Thus is you bumped into any of the people from the wedding, they will have forgotten that you had worn it before?
I know you've already bought the outfit, but do you say.. a nice coloured pair of shoes, a coloured clutch or jacket that could go with the dress, so it's not to dark and dreary?
You could get some pretty peices of jewellery that make the outfit look more lighter for a wedding?
I also think it depends on the length and style of the dress, if it's knee length or above the knee white heels might look nice?
Have you got a picture you could show?

I like that think that would be fine for a wedding, maybe if you accesorise with lighter colours it be fine! So lighter coloured shoes, bag and jewellery Then get a jacket that isn't to heavy for the dress (Was going to suggest a lace blazer kind of thing but you've got a lace dress so it wouldn't really work)

Then I think I could get away with the black jacket, shoes and clutch bag. I could get a little shrug to cover my shoulders as it's a church wedding. I didn't think it would be so difficult to get an outfit! The navy dress would probably be ok with black shoes and bag for a night out or evening meal out.
edited to add; my hubby doesn't think this dress is suitable for a wedding, grrrrrrrrrrr.

Nope thats a good'un I think! I think that previous one you posted was a bit to eveningy though.
Do you want a dress from Jane Norman? Because I was looking at some other websites for you and H&M have a nice dress:
http://shop.hm.com/gb/shoppingwindow?dept=DAM_KLAKJ_KLA&shoptype=S which is cheaper aswell!
Edit: Just saw that the link I sent didn't actually show you the dress Ha, it's the third one in, strapless £14.99
I agree with your Hubby, you shouldn't go in all black to a wedding, it's not "the done thing". It's supposed to be a joyous celebration, but all black makes it look like you are mourning.
You need a little colour in your outfit somehow, much like the others have suggested. Having said that your later suggestion is more like I would expect to see at a wedding...
