Help me find a fancy dress!

That's a dress that's fancy, not a fancy dress outfit!

I'm going to be bridesmaid for my buddy this winter, and as she lives abroad and won't be spending much time over here before the wedding, she's leaving me to find my own dress. I asked if she had any preference for colours/styles/etc, but she just says she trusts my taste - the pressure! :shocking:

Anyway, we found her dress at the weekend, and it's got a kind of vintage look to it, like some kind of 50s bombshell, so I thought it might be nice to get something along the lines of a 50s style prom dress. Except cause it's for a wedding it obv needs to be a bit fancy.

I've checked all the usual suspects for bridesmaidy dresses (Monsoon, Coast, Debenhams, etc). Is there anywhere else that I can look for nice dresses that might have them in that slightly retro/vintagey style?

Thanks in advance, style Jedi!

This is where my sister got her wedding dress from (I think. If not, the dress looked like a lot of the ones on here.) I had something similar, and got it from Warehouse.

Only if your feeling very rich http://www.candyanthony.com/

But you can sometimes pick up second hand ones on ebay - otherwise i'd look for proper vintage jobs.

 They're so nice! Way out of budget, though!

Thanks for suggestions, folks. Have decided to wait a wee while to see how much more baby weight comes off before I buy anything, but you have provided extra ideas :d

I have nothing to offer, just a question. I've seen several posts on here about bridesmaids picking out their own dresses, shoes, accessories and what not. Is it common in the UK for the bridesmaids to dress differently from eachother, or a new thing that is becoming common over yonder?

Do the groomsmen dress differently too?

I think there are still a fair amount of people who dress all their bridesmaids identically! It varies :)

Groomsmen is an american thing, so not sure of the equivalent. I guess it's like we have the best man, ushers and maybe a page boy or two? Again, that varies. Some people dress everyone in matching suits, some don't. We had the best man and the groom kind of matching (well, they had the same tie!), but no one else. Then again, my wedding wasn't the most traditional or formal, and we didn't have ushers. Maybe if there had been some they would have matched too!

Thanks for the info! I rather like the idea of the bridesmaids picking out their own thing with a similar theme... you can wear the outfit again at least too!
