Yes, the planet can be made to feed that many... but at what cost to the climate, biodiversity, health, and quality of life?

I can only go off that one prog I'm afraid.
He was saying that it can be done quite easily without degrading the world ...even reapiring it as we go but ...not with the financial and political systems we have in place.
It seems the world and it's people can be fine ...if we get rid of the obvious.

The only way of dealing with the impact man has on the environment is to radically reduce the rate of population increase.

Not quite that simple, but close.

In their lifetime, the average "western" child will consume eight times the natural resources of a child born elsewhere in the world - or so I was told.

    Home is where we start...

Good point indeed. Though at least you could argue this kid was part of a good movement while the Standard journo abused by Livingstone was part of a nauseating organisation with a track record of past anti-semitism and present-day bigotry.

Or alternatively you could say the journo was from a paper whih used to be an employer of Livingstone and was asking legitimate questions of a political figure and the kid was disrupting a speech.

Still, either way a quick apology about over hasty use of words could have made it a non-story (or at least smaller than they were).
