Taking photos in Low Light

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I will be taking my camera to my works' xmas party on the 18th December.

I own a Ricoh Caplio R6. I would like to know how I can take better photos without them being blurry all the time.

Any advice would be greatful.

David

right, if its a party u won't be wanting to change the exposure as that would blur alot of photos, i would recommend changing the ISO to around 800-1600 depending on how dark/light it is, note that this will change the quality of the photos on some cameras, I.e making them more grainy

Yeah there's basically three components to taking your shots -

    Exposure time.
    Aperture
    ISO (sensitivity)

Then of course (not really a camera setting)
    Light

These operate in a traingle, so that if you have more of one, you need less of another to get the "same" shot.

Increasing exposure time means that your photos are more likely to be blurry, so you want to keep that low.

You may have control over the aperture, which you want as wide as you can (lower numbers).

You should have control over the ISO, as curly boy said, but watch for noise.

Then your last option is to add light.
