Spray tan vs fake tan

I didn't get to go on holiday this year, and I'm contemplating a spray/fake tan for two reasons.
1) I spend quite a bit of time outdoors, and as a result have a stupid tanned bib on my chest, but thanks to the British weather, never got to even the tan lines out and it still hasn't faded
2) I have awful stretch marks on my thighs (inner and outer) and I'm really self concious about it. I'd quite like to do some swimming, but as it stands I refuse to show off my legs to anybody! I think that a bit of a tan might help to hide them somewhat.
I have bought some Bio-Oil type stuff, but in the mean time, would I be better with a spray tan, fake tan, or leaving well alone?
