MSN Messenger Acting Strangly

when I try to log into MSN Messenger and type my user name it takes about 3 seconds from the time I press a key to the time the letter appears on the screen.

I tried looking for viruses and other problems and couldn't find anything, so restored from a backup copy of windows that was fine 3 days ago and same problem

Any ideas what it might be?

Again scanned for viruses and spyware and found nothing.

All other program work fine.

Mine does this every now and then. It's mainly when I type it in too quick and it hasn't had time to load properly or my Internet conection isn't great. Facebook can occationally do it as well.

I don't know what was making mine act weirdly - in the end just reinstalled windows xp from scratch - was long overdue for a reinstall and now imaged it so can always go back to this copy.
