Gang Behavior or Just a Dance (U.S. Related)

Some schools are banning students from performing the C-walk, or Crip Walk, on school premises and at school related events.

The dance once associated with the Crips (a major street gang) is now mainstream and popping up on various music videos and being taught at dance classes. Some claim that what was once gang behavior is now a part of pop culture.

Some schools, like Crenshaw High (California), one of the schools that have banned the step, begs a differ. They say in order to protect students, along with banning gang colors and caps, they have banned the Crip Walk.

A man named, Alejandro Alonso, who studies gangs, says that due to popularity, the dance is like baggy jeans—a part of gangs, now a part of the mainstream. He believes this dance is of little danger and given its popularity, if it is performed by someone not a member of the gang, people will understand.

What do you think, should it be banned from schools for the students sake or does it not pose a danger?
