Escort Agencies

Hey all

I was chatting to this guy at work recently and he said he had signed up to be a male escort but the website he signed up to wanted £270 off him before they could send him on any jobs. They told him they needed this money to set up a profile for him and to promote him etc, so far he has not given them any money but he is tempted as they said he can earn £600 just for going to dinner with a woman. Apperantly he is not obliged to have sex with the woman but they said if he wants to do it then it is up to him.

Does this sound like a huge con to you?? Cus it does to me. I told him not to go through with it incase he is being ripped off. Although this has got me thinking... Has anybody ever been an escort? or used an escort? it sounds like a good way 2 make sum extra cash as long as it is just stuff like going out to dinner, no funny business lol. And of course you will have to join a legit company etc...

Your thoughts?

Firstly, although i know nothing about this kind of business, i would be wary about it. £270 for promoting him seems a bit much! Maybe he can talk to someone who is already with them to find out more? Or maybe look at some other escort companies and see what the general consenses is on this sort of this... maybe its the norm.

For the second bit... i MIGHT consider doing it, but i would have to think alot about it. I'd want to know that the guy (or girl) i'm with is legitimate and isnt gonna try anything that we hadnt agreed on. It would take alot of trust from me but if everything was fine and dandy then yes i'd consider it.

    Yes, sounds totally dodgy.

I don't believe that escort agencies are anything other than an expensive prostitute service.

Sounds like a scam, but it depends. Did he find the agency on the internet, or was it recommended to him by a friend?

Either way, anyone who says that escorting isn't prostitution is deluded. Nothing wrong with it if everyone's consenting, but it's still prostitution. People don't pay £600 for riveting company, they pay it to be riveted.

He found the company on the internet.

I would only consider it if it was just company, no sex. This "agancy" told him their main clients were people who visit the country or area on business and want some company of an evening.

Rather like Kermit says, you have to be pretty deluded if you think someone is going to pay £500 upwards just to take a person out to dinner

He may not be obliged to shag them, but how many do you think will be coming back after spending £600 on a dinner date?

For £600 I'd want to be dining with Gandhi, The Queen and Richard Branson. :thumb:

I don't know anyone who works as an escort for an agency, however BBC Radio 4 did a program about it in the last year, or so, and the male escorts interviewed did say sex wasn't a required part of the transaction

I'm of mixed feelings over this one - it could well be a scam, but on the other hand I can see they want to make sure you are going to turn up to an assignment, so charging this big fee might help weed out time wasters.

That's why I asked if the agency was recommended. It's not unusual for escort agencies to charge a fee for a profile- profiles cost money- but if it's somewhere out of the yellow pages it's more likely to be a scam.

He should ask around and see if anyone can recommend it.

Anything that wants money up front is a scam.

i naively joined an escort agency that charged an upfront fee. adorabelles. i thought i did research, googling around and calling up a few and they all seemed to say the same thing, that they needed a fee for insurance purposes, which i felt was understandable in a way, definately believable. Anyway i used the last bit of cash i had to pay them and said i could only join and pay if i had a definate booking as i really couldnt afford the money. Luckily i got a booking really quickly so paid the money and got ready to go. Half an hour before the appointment it was cancelled. Strangely enough i have never had another booking. That was 4 weeks ago. I feel utterly stupid to be honest and i am so cross with myself. I dont understand how an agency runs on a scam though, as surely after scamming so many people people would catch on? Also try scamming people the other was around, as in clients that call up and want a girl/boy escort. They would book, pay a fee then what.. no one turns up? Surely they'd be onto them like wild fire?

I should have clicked on when for instance they didnt care about meeting me, no contract or anything, no official booking form. I was stupid, dont make the same mistake. No one would pay 600 quid for a 4hr dinner date, especially not with some of the people ive seen on the website (agency) im now a 'member' with. All the legit agencies dont charge a fee and are alot more explicit that it is about sex. I went with the agency i did as it advertised a more companionship role.

is there anything that can be done about this? does anyone know? I guess its too late.. i handed the money over to them willingly so...?

can anyone advise me on what to do... cut my losses?

Hey, have deleted your second post, as by posting the link like that it's simply giving them more promotion - which by the sound of your first post, they really don't deserve.

but surely its not the promotion they want? saying that there agency isnt to be trusted? i though by bringing attention to their name it would prevent others from making the mistake and show them up for who they really are? no?
