Lent

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I know it's not for another week or so yet, but will anyone be giving anything up for Lent? Do you give something up because you're religious, or just because you want to prove to yourself that you can do it?

I never manage it, and it's always depressing when I fail so I just don't bother anymore!

Erm, not this year, methinks. I've already been forced to give up tea. If I gave up chocolate or ice cream or something I'd go mad!

Have done before. I have to admit, I'm looking forward to my pancakes this year. I may have more than one shrove tuesday :yum:

For the last two years, I gave up chocolate for Lent. I'm not Christian but it just seemed like a good goal. I eat too much chocolate. I will do it again this year. :(

Because of such indoctrination of my Greek Orthodox church and all the guilt attached to failing Lent, I've given up on it as I have my church. So, sorry. But good luck to those here who want to follow Lent.

It's supposed to recreate Jesus' 40 days in the desert. It was originally a fast, so you took Sundays off (don't know why) so there are actually 47 days from Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday.

Sundays are days off as they're a day of religious worship/celebration of the rising and conquering of sin (small easter celebrations really)

Rubbish ...Sundays are for the worship of the sun.
Thats why the Sun worshiping popes changed it from Saturday.
