Help! A Google Virus?!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Everytime I click on a search result in Google it comes up with a Spyware ad thingy! And now it's got a scary internet explorer page up telling me either to press okay or cancel. Either way it looks like/pretends to be scanning my system. But I can't close it with the little red x! What is happening?!? :(

sounds like it could be a browser hijack...

Have you done the usual virus / malware scans?

    I don't know how :( I don't think I have anything that does that...

That said, my computer had some pop up thing that came up to prevent files being downloaded.

Do you have internet security? If you do then you will need to do a scan. I had this the other week too by the way but you need to scan your pc.

It seemed to go away on its own. So I have no idea what it was.

Did you get involved with big smilies / emoticons, Incredimail, registry cleaners, aquarium screensaver, xxx screensaver, Win Antivirus 2009? Those are typical examples of spyware take-overs.

    Jim, you're brilliant!
Virus and spyware scan: 12 items detected, 2 issues found.
Registry cleaner scan: 473 invalid items found.

    Ooops!
