Cleaning household items after rats have been on them?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
We are moving some household furniture out of a garage and there is evidence of rats, also my missus is nearly due to give birth so I don't want to move stuff in to our new house without having everything cleaned properly, can I use normal antibacterial stray you get for worktops?

detol might be your best bet...depends what it is, if its soft furnshings then just send them to the dry cleaners, but otherwise you might want to use an antibacterial bleach for somethings if that isn't going to damage them. But an antibacterial spray is a good idea, just get a strong one..

are you sure it was rats rather than mice?

There's a dettol spray that you don't have to wash off. Might be handy for any crevices you can't reach properly and make sure everything is disinfected

Steam cleaning for furniture might be the best way to go, I've heard it's what they do in the rooms of people with severe allergies.
