Godfather/mother rules?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Whats the deal on that? if you want someone to be a godfather for your son/daughter, does that person have to be a Christian themselves or can you choose who you want?

Thanks if anyone knows...:thumb:

I would say, choose who you want. I guess it may depend on the pastor / vicar / priest performing the baptism.

Depends on the denomination. When my (catholic) nephew was christened, the godfather, who was C of E, had to get a special dispensation from the priest. They wouldn't have allowed him to be godfather at all if he wasn't christian.

I would check it out first. To be pedantic, the role of the godparents is to help raise your child to be a good christian, so it would kind of defeat the object to pick non-christians.
