Anal sex - lube question

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Hi,

I did a quick search and couldn't find any specific advice, so apologies if the answer is already here somewhere.

Anyway, I've just started having anal sex with my girlfriend and I'm looking to get some lube to make things easier.

Firstly, I wanted some recommendations. I don't want anything that does anything special, like tingle, or smell like strawberrys or glows in the dark. I'm just looking for basic stuff. Any ideas?

Also, where is the best place to get it? Would boots or somewhere similar do it or would I need to go to somewhere a little more specialist?

Thanks!

I've not used it myself, but I'm told that KY is good. It does say somewhere on the box about it being suitable for that purpose, I think. Anyway, it's a couple of quid in Boots/Sainsburys etc depending on what size tube you get.

Hope that helps, I'm sure someone of more experience may be able to suggest a more specialised lube.

Your poor girlfriend! Are you only just thinking of lube now?! Hehe as has already been said, you can get lube from anywhere like big supermarkets, boots, or other pharmacies, very straightforward! I would go for the likes of KY as opposed to other own brands as I've heard they can be less effective.

any lube that is water based should do the trick i would recommend using a condom as there are some real nasties you should avoid. As your new to anal i would also recommend a de-sensitising gel or cream like cherry anal ease or china anal balm this will help relax the sphincter allowing for a easier and more enjoyable session!

I've always read not to use de-sensitising cream for anal sex because it makes it harder to know if there has been any damage and damaging the tissue in the anus increases the risk of passing on STIs and specifically HIV.

 That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Friction burns! Ouch!

KY can get a bit too dry too quickly and vaseline, whilst an excellent lube can rot a condom if you use them.

Have a look around for a product called Liquid Silk - you're lucky to have a girlfriend who enjoys it, but from the women I've done it with, Liquid Silk seems to help give them the most pleasure.
