How to work out betting odds?

Is it as simple as for example, you bet on a horse that is 6/4 and the bookmaker thinks you are 6 times more likely to lose and if you put a tenner on you get £4 for every £6 you put on, so I would get back a grand total of £14? :confused::lol:

    I didn't understand a word of that, but 6/4 means you win £6 for every £4 you bet, plus your original bet. So a tenner on a 6/4 bet would win you £15, plus your original tenner, so you'd get £25 back.
