Electric Underblanket

Electric Underblanket - Who has one?

I have one and comes in well handy during winter months - thinking about packing it in my suitcase cos I'm off for upto 2 months in a house in the North of Thailand and I hear it's hot during the day and freezing cold at night.

Plus I'm thinking about taking it as a joke cos everyone else going is American and coming direct from the USA so they won't have one .. LOL (our voltage is similar to that in most of Asia - a US blanket would blow up .. :))

I'll be the only one with the warm bed at night .. :D

They said it's 10C at night - indoors!!

According to the clock on my wall my bedroom right now is 21C

Don't really wanna be going to sleep every night in hat and gloves

I've got one at my flat and in my old room at my Mum and Dad's when I go over to kip sometimes.

NO SHAME! I like to have warm feet and a toasting backside.

Eh? Is it just me or is 10C not that cold at night... Are you someone that keeps the heating on 24hours?
Usually my body heat warms me up under my duvet at night; and if that fails I have a hot water bottle.
Don't think I'd trust an electric underblanket. Sounds a bit scary.

Is this just a ploy to get the girls in bed with you at night DG?

Are you trying to say he needs the aid of an electric blanket to keep things warm under the sheets?

I think it uses a lot less electric to heat up one bed then an entire room or house for that matter.

My underblanket has three settings each uses

    20 watts, 28 watts and 65 watts

a 20 watts lightbulb would be really dim and 65 about average.

A kettle uses about 1,500 to 3,000 watts

So say for the price of boiling a kettle for 3 minutes to make a cup of tea - you'd get about 70 minutes to use of the underblanket on it's highest setting. I usually find you need to leave it on with all the bed covers on it for about 2 hours to get it nice and toasty.

Also you can pretty much turn the underblanket off once you get in - as the duvet should retain most of the heat

So two hours of use a night on the top level is about the same as two cups of tea, or 7 hours on the lowest setting.

I used to use one of the petal type clock timers so you can set what time it will come on and off - it's nice getting into bed and it being all nice and warm for you.

I also find I'd get to sleep a lot quicker in a warm bed then a cold one.

I was in Thailand a while back and really did not need an electric blanket. Or, indeed, any blanket. Remember that even if the temperature drops to 10C in the night, you're still going to bed (depending on when you go to bed) when it's in the mid 20s. It's not like the blanket it going to be any use to you.

I get too hot in bed ;)
lol but no, I couldn't have an electric duvet. Usually just sleep with a blanket, or a duvet if it's cold and that does me.

I thought it was pretty clear, but anyway, I was saying I do not think it will be cold, and can't see why you would need any blanket.

Of course if you're up a mountain, who knows.

Me and my sis both had them as kids - we've still got one so I may have to get it out of the attic. Better still, nick my parent's double leccy blanket instead lol.
