Out of interest, where is everyone going in September, which University? I most look forward to meeting new people and gaining knowledge.

Uncontrolled boozing and J smoking is another good point.

I'm going to sussex to do law. I can't believe how many people on the boards are off to really top uni's. I wanted to go to UCL but I couldn't get the grades. <IMG SRC="frown.gif" border="0" ALT="icon"> I should have applied for something less competitive!!

Isn't it amazing how you have this mental picture of people and their abilities etc. without knowing them?

Gems, without looking in your profile, I thought you were much younger, and I can't explain why, because I don't know.

Similarly, I think that there are some very clever people, at or applying to some of the best unis, and I don't know why that doesn't surprise me. I've had better discussions here than I ever did at school, and sometimes at uni! There are top people on here.

Are you mad? I did three years at Uni and then took a year out. It was the best thing that I ever did. My 6 months in Spain have beaten anything that I've done at Uni. Having said that, I'm now in my final year (4 year course because 'tis in Scotland) and will probably cry for days when I leave. Good luck everyone!!!

It depends on what you do in your year out, if you travel I imagine it would be very good. I got fed up on my year out and found it very difficult (in fact impossible) to find any interesting jobs and spent the time in crap jobs or on the dole, then worked on a summer camp.

So if you are going to have a year out you should plan it carefully!

BTW I am hoping to go to uni in September and start over again in the first year (I just quit my first year at Cardiff Uni), I have applied for one course which I really want to get, I have to submit some peices of work before they will decide. If I don't get in there I will try to get in somewhere through clearing.

Can actually see your point now. I would advise anyone who takes a year out to think about it carefully. I knew exactly what I wanted to do and was quite lucky with job applications and stuff. Don't think that it would have been half as good if I'd spent the whole time working in a supermarket. Also, returning to Uni after 6 months in Spain was also one hell of a culture shock!!!
