    Whats the big deal here?? i only pay £400 tutition fees a year. thats two weeks paychecks i saved the rest and i'm laughing.
    Where do all these thousands of pounds debts come from?????

    Over a three year course:
    3x£1000 fees
    3x£3500 loan

    I'm over £5500 adn counting. The interest really sucks as I can't afford to start paying yet.

    at the moment I'm £600 in the black, I didnt take out a loan cos I live at home, and I have a job so im not too bad.
    I feel sorry for the other people thoug.

    Let's see now, including the graduate "consolidation" loan, plus student loans I'll be up to around.... ohhhh.... £3500 at the moment, which is about half paid off. Another couple of years and I can stop living in poverty!! Hooray!!

    Well I wish I'd taken out a student bloody loan! When I left University I had a £5000 overdraft and I've been paying it off eversince. At least with a student loan you don't have to pay it off until you are earning more than a certain amount. The most I've ever earned is £13,500 and I have still had to make monthly payments every month for years.

    I currently owe £3500 from 2 years ago when i first started uni, now, at a new uni, and a new course where my debt will eventually build up to £14,000, plus whatever overdraft i'll have at the end!! For students in general we don't really worry about now, becasue we don't have to pay it back yet, but when we graduate, expect UK debt depression!!

    Well, hey.... I'm in my third year and just got my student loan co. statement. Now on £8.500 and rising by nearly £20 per month, and I haven't even finished yet! Unlike some I do actually have to go into college every day - 9-5 and often until 8 or 9 at night, just to get the work done. Last year I worked as well until I got pneumonia and had to slow down a bit. My student loan just about covers my rent, and I have to pay for all materials as well (expensive as I do ceramics and glass). Also some minor expenses like clothes, shoes and food have to be covered. I am a mature student (28!) so don't get any help from my parents or anything. Yay it's a great life, and I'm not on the streets, but I am getting well into debt to keep it that way. Despite some of the bad stereotypes that people have in their heads......

    You shouldn't ignore it. If debt is getting on top of you, you should talk to someone about it. Namely a financial advisor at uni. If your circumstances are that bad then they can consider you for a hardship bursary, usually about £500 that can help keep your head above water so to speak.

    Cheers for the concern mate, i'm ontop of it at the moment it's the ammount that i have to pay back when i start working full time that scares me. By the time i graduate in June 2003 i will owe in the region of 12,000 quid!!! aaaaaaargh

    Fuck sake, some of you have a severe amount of debt like!! It's good here in Scotland because you get your fees paid for you if your Scottish! <IMG alt="image" SRC="smile.gif" border="0"> I live at home, I'm 2nd year and I got a £1200 loan last year (which was spent on a holiday to Ibiza!! <IMG alt="image" SRC="biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG alt="image" SRC="biggrin.gif" border="0">) but I don't really need it for uni because I'm doing an internet course at Abertay in Dundee so all my material is online on the uni's intranet and I can get all the information I need from the net anyway. Books which could be useful for my course get old quickly so there isn't much sense in buying them unless they are absolutly vital and the informtaion wont go out of date too soon. I've got another loan this year but I've already spent my £400 first installment <IMG alt="image" SRC="frown.gif" border="0"> Time to get a job methinks...

    fuck knows what my debt's gonna be. tuition is £8000 a year for me, cos i'm an international student. and i dont (think) i get a student loan either - at least not from the gov't.

    Im pissed off, talking about the scots like that! I'm half scottish, and I'm very proud of my heritage! Well, the English half anyway. Scotland is too cold, and lags behind England by about 10 years. The only scottish people I can understand are my Mum and my aunty, everyone else sounds like they are slurring!

    and i aldready have £1000 overdraft and am in my second year out of 4! I'm lucky, my parents pay my fees (about £500).
