The hole in the wall swallowed my friends card today after the bank was shut. Is there any way she can cancel it before monday?

Most banks have 24/7 contact centres. Try calling the bank and canceling.

Yeah the lines are open 24/7 365 days a year.
Get the number off the back of a same bank card or website.

Your bank will have a lost and stolen cards line, which will be in the phone book if nowhere else.

However, when I worked at lost and stolen cards for HSBC, which was, admittedly, a while ago, we did not usually cancel cards which the machine had eaten. (Cos they are in the machine and go through the replacment process anyway.) But things may be different now.

Over here, most ATMs display things when not being used, including a screen with "If your card gets kept in the machine call XXXXXXXXX immeditately".
