Hey, anyone going to see Joe Satriani? In fact...has anyone actually HEARD of him?! I can't believe he's playing such a small venue...it will be awesome!! If anyone on here is going...please let me know...I have no-one to go with so far!!

He's got Paul Gilbert supporting him, which is fucking awesome.

Technically, exceptionally gifted; musically, very boring.
Just like Malmsteen, Vai, Battio, Gilbert, Buckethead etc. etc. ad nauseum.
It's one thing to be fast and technically proficient. It's another thing to be able to play.
Balls.
Say what you want but faster does not equate to better.
I'd much prefer to listen to someone like Slash / Mustaine than those boring lightning shredders.
The only player like that I can actually tolerate is Guthrie Govan.

I never said it did. I just don't think Satch or Paul Gilbert should be lumped into the mindless shredder category.
Outside of Racer X, most of Paul Gilbert's albums have been Japanese inspired pop rock. And putting Satch into the same group as Batio and Malmsteen is laughable. I think there were maybe 3, possibly 4 songs on his last album that had OTT fast stuff on them.
