Bin Laden the eco-warrior!

OSAMA BIN LADEN has intervened in the debate on climate change, showing a new-found interest in green issues, in a video speech marking the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

In his first video appearance since 2004, the Al-Qaeda leader blamed western “capitalist corporations” for global warming which he said was leading to the “death and displacement of millions of human beings”, especially in Africa.

[...]The terror leader’s interest in green issues caused some surprise. “The life of all of mankind is in danger because of the global warming resulting to a large degree from the emissions of the factories of the major corporations. Yet despite that, the representative of these corporations in the White House insists on not observing the Kyoto accord,” Bin Laden intoned.

Multi-millionaire living in a cave. He's certainly doing his bit.

What about the death of thousands of human beings he created?

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that green issues are not important, but I can't respect any attempt of making this man seem socially aware.
Quite frank, him living in a cave goes quite well with him and his followers having the outlook of cavemen.

Yet the old soap dodger doesn't mind 'warming' up the earth with explosions (conventional or nuclear).

Better still, he might be turning pagan or buddhist and getting in touch with nature.

I think that he's playing a shrewd game here. Which section of the population is most anti-war and also anti-capitalism/pro-green issues? Who is more likely to "sympathise" with his political objectives?

Do you think that this message is aimed at them? Why fight a battle when you can fight a political campaign to oust your "enemies"?

I honestly reckon that Bin Laden is one of the greatest users of propaganda that has ever been (and based on the terms of war at the moment, surely also one of the best military leaders ever as a result). Of course he's been helped greatly by the fact that the current US government is one of the worst.

Frankly not even the most fanatic environmentalist is going to be turned on by a man who has murdered many thousand innocent people.

And even if a few people did not care about other people's lives, I should imagine the environmental damage produced by the 9/11 atrocities are not going to win him any friends either.

    You think?

How much political support did the likes of Irish Repulicans get, noth in the US and from UK socialists?

It's amazing how big things can be swept under the carpet for political expediency comes to the fore. It works on the other side of the coin too, as the debate about global warming and - for example - my acceptance of deaths in return for longer term democracy...

His goal isn't to win friends, it's to make America enemies, and he's doing that quite well.

Oh not nearly as good a job as the US government itself have been doing for years, believe me!
