wheat rust of the kind the ancient egyptians suffered is back with a vengance. No wheat means no ...pies bread beer pasta cakes pastries etc etc.
scientists have said they have six months to find a soluion but have as yet got nowhere.
the days of cheap plentiful grub will be over by sometime next year.

I have wheat though and there has to be some wheat for there still to be bread being made, even if it's £50 a loaf

I know this isn't in the media but i have seen a lot of problems on my world tour.
There are huge crop failuires happening around the world ...did you know that the recent English floods caused millions of pigs and chickens to be slaughtered?
cos there was no drinking water for them.
even the grass has failed in large parts of Wales ...either to flattened to cut or the ground to soggy to take machinery onto to cut ...meaning no winter feed for cattle.
Asia is buying up as much food stock as possible and prices are rising rapidly.
i know ...take no notice ...laugh at me ....buit think of me when your going hungry ...as the supermarket shelves become ever barer.
the days of cheap food are over for the time being.
we've had it very easy but ...time for a little survivalist mentality ...stock up on canned and dried foods.
if i had the time i'd hunt out some facts for you but ...the media seem to be steering well clear of this one.

That made me laugh. Aren't they like floating around in loads of water anyway? How can a flood cause a shortage of drinking water.

I wish they had pictures of those floating sheep.

And I assume the figure of £50 by 2008 was arrived at through months of statistical analysis was it?

mr roll has a good point even if £50 is a bit unlikely, staple commodities have been going through the roof globally (accentuated more recently by the freak weather) and other factors (e.g. weaker £) means inflation is about to hit the UK bigtime....

Well they already would be really expensive if all the Western countries didn't subsidise them.

    Welcome back rolly.

If bread is gonna cost £50 quid here by the end of 2008, I wonder what it'll cost in Zimbabwe by then. 800 trillion quid?

you are all idiots if you think £50 is even a serious figure suggested by mr roll. his points are valid tho, and it wouldn't be surprising if prices were at least 3x what they are now.

You can get wee scrappers for that easily, no tax, insurance, on it's last legs from someone looking rid of it. Usually last a couple of nights at best, used to always buy them for £20-30, rake the fuck out of it and then burn it out somewhere. Those were the days. :D
