iTunes library backup/restore

I formatted a machine t'other day & made a backup of the My Music folder including the iTunes library. I can't seem to find where to put the music now though, Do I just copy it back to where it previously went?

Or have I done it entirely wrong, and are the tracks now useless?

If the files are useless is there a way to redownload from the itunes music store?
