Skipping!

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Im wanting to get a bit fitter and work off some winter insulation that i gained over christmas.

I cant do walking or running or swimming, or basically anything in the gym, ive been advised against that by my doctor as i have a serious back problem.

Ive discovered that skipping doesnt hurt

Is it true that its really good for getting fit, and for an all round body workout?

Does anyone else skip?!:hyper:

I personally would have thought that swimming would have been better for your back than rope skipping. Skipping is good for you and can burn a lot of calories.

    Activity (1 hour) 130lbs 155lbs 190lbs

    Rope jumping, fast 708 844 1035

    Rope jumping, moderate, general 590 704 863

    Rope jumping, slow 472 563 690

I go on the cross trainer and burn about 400 calories in less than 40 minutes. But thing is you cant keep up fast skipping for that long.

Ok some advice for anyone considering taking up skipping...

If you dont normally get any exercise, dont do what i did and do about a thousand skips straight away. Always stretch first, warm up, and gradually increase the skips!

I can hardly walk because of my pulled calf muscles!

Any form of movement is going to help but usually to burn off fat you need to do low intensity work for a long period of time.
