The war in Iraq is a QUAGMIRE!

As a supporter of the REAL "War on Terror", I don't and never did support this war in Iraq. I support our troops and am a peacetime veteran.
But...
President Bush asked us, the American people, to pay AT LEAST $87 billion for the occupation and reconstruction of Iraq. He’s asking for twice what the federal government spends on our own roads, bridges, highways and public transit systems, and far more than the U.S. government will spend on education this year. Yet his support for vital homeland security like first responders, police, fire, emergency medical, and seaport defenders, is woefully inadequate, as much as $20 billion short.
Bush has clearly decided it is more important for the U.S. to rebuild Iraq than to adequately address very serious problems we have here at home. We need a President who has a deep knowledge and understanding of national security issues, and who won’t make such costly mistakes.
Bush abandoned the fight against al Qaeda to prepare for war with Iraq. He deceived the American people. Iraq posed no direct threat to the American people, as he claimed. There is no credible evidence that Saddam Hussein possessed nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction. Now al Qaeda has regrouped and has resurfaced in Afghanistan, and Bush is trying to salvage the operation there while pouring billions into a quagmire in Iraq. al Qaeda idealists are responsible for several bombings and suicide attacks since 9/11, while we chase Saddam Hussein around Iraq.
Dick Cheney’s former company received a no-bid federal contract to rebuild Iraq.
I would love to support our President, and I did, right after 9/11. I was one of the 90%ers in favor then.
I just think he has lost focus and now the rest of America is starting to see it too.
It was about time the Bush Administration went to the UN for help. It had to be a bitter pill to swallow.
Was that a smirk on the President’s face… or egg?
The "War in Iraq” is NOT the “War on Terror.” Don’t get the two confused.

Which regular are you?;)
Its very true, well all agree- or until the Bushbots come back.
I was banned recently from another forum for my "Liberal" views. I found this place yesterday and signed up.
Yeah and im a real nun
Nice to see you back
This person has been here before?
Somewhere "bans" you for having liberal views?
Damn Genesis were right - a land of confusion.
As for the post:
1. The US can afford it, so why not? Although they contribute the highest amount to support International development, they actually contirbute a significantly low percentage of GDP.
2. By securing a "friendly" nation in the Gulf region (one which isn't Israel that is ) they can position themselves to have a greater impact on its neighbours. Thus greater impact on Terrorism. Think strategically. Of course, not funding it in the first place would be preferable
3. The reason that this amount is more than you spend on your roads etc, is becuase you don't need to spend so much - when compared to a country like Iraq.
4. Agree with you on education. Perhaps an improvement there would reduce the amount of war you had to wage. In fact, shouldn't you ensure that all potential candidates for Presdent had actually visited more than just Mexico in their lifetime and had some understanding of the countries outside of the US?
I was banned over at military.com
Stop by there and say "Hi" for me, Ironside! That'll surely get ya hated real fasssst!:D
They jus' hate logical opposition to their radical warmonger ways.
I have no reason to hide behind another nickname here. If you wanna think I am one of your past posters here, that's up to you.
Feel free to visit my web site!
Now back to the quagmire in Iraq...;)
The US can afford it, so why not? Although they contribute the highest amount to support International development, they actually contirbute a significantly low percentage of GDP.
It George Bush that said, during the Republican Convention, “We are not Nation Builders.” He also said this Nation (The United States of America) couldn’t fight a two front battle.
War became an evil necessity in Afghanistan. Nation building became a necessity in Afghanistan. President Bush exploited 9/11 to go to war with Iraq.
By securing a "friendly" nation in the Gulf region (one which isn't Israel that is ) they can position themselves to have a greater impact on its neighbours. Thus greater impact on Terrorism. Think strategically. Of course, not funding it in the first place would be preferable.
You make a valid point here. The problem is, Islam likes nothing less than us occupying their land. Especially when we can’t find the “Weapons of Mass Destruction” that had the world so threaten. President Bush isn’t fighting Terrorism. He abandoned that war. He’s stirring a hornets nest. What was wrong with Afghanistan as that “friendly” Nation?
The reason that this amount is more than you spend on your roads etc, is becuase you don't need to spend so much - when compared to a country like Iraq.
We shouldn’t be spending American tax dollars on building and repairing Iraq’s infrastructure. We can LOAN them the money it will cost to REPAIR the damage it took to “LIBERATE” them. Instead, Bush want’s to give this Nation, who has the world’s second largest oil reserves, the cash, while at the same time, fattening the pocket books of the richest Americans and largest Corporations, with a $350 billion tax cut. We can afford that, you say?
Agree with you on education. Perhaps an improvement there would reduce the amount of war you had to wage. In fact, shouldn't you ensure that all potential candidates for Presdent had actually visited more than just Mexico in their lifetime and had some understanding of the countries outside of the US?
Yup
He's the one that banned me!:D
I'll let you tell 'em like you saw it.;)
Nevermind the fact that no allegiance to the very liberties defined under a democracy will be permitted to be extolled on those boards without a rapid verbal pummeling and claims of "conspiracy theory" to any who dare point out the facts of our leader's own whitewashed military record (AWOL anyone?).
"Patriotism" has become such the meanless soundbite that these particular representatives of our armed forces willingly choose to remain blind to the fact that its a two way street and that Iraqis could dare be patriotic themselves in the face of hostile foreign aggression.
Remind them of whether they would be fighting back if it were foreign troops on our soil come to "liberate us" or whether they would hearken to their own sentiments and lay down their arms peaceably and welcome their invaders with open arms (hmm Mr. Rumsfeld, what was that valiant claim you made?) and youre a commie socialist traitor who hates his country (even though their never was any threat to our country from Iraq).
Its surely a testiment to the exceptional training in hate that our tax dollars go toward providing when one reads of how little compassion some of our boys have for those whose land they invaded, whose doors they are kicking in in the middle of the night, and whose cities continue to be lit up by heavy bombardment. They of course wouldnt hate any foreign military that might do that to our cities, towns and neighbourhoods now would they?
And don't tell us the truth or dare speak out against Geroge Bush, the pampered daddy's boy who has had his entire career from his numerous failed enterprises to his governorship and inevitable presidency haded to him on a silver platter, he's got "character".
Frigthening mindset but hardly surprising. Clinton lied about having sex, Bush lied and our boys are getting killed but that's a lie theyre willing to die defending. Utterly astounding!
What are you so scared of dude!
From mil.com message boards
if you got banned for being to liberal ...another big welcome. i would prefer if liberal read realist.
Obviously a portion of our men at arms can't sense real betrayal by Washington even when it explodes in their face.
Hello from the liberal camp to all you militants out there looking in on us daring to exercise our Constitutional rights to dissent, sorry we can't just relinquish those rights you supposedly joined up to preserve Liberty is so darn annoying, ain't it?
was he one of your zionist supporters or what?
ah im really confused now.
In other words thanatos+Globe=Troll
Kinda funny, to think a big bad Vietnam Special Forces dude is running around playing a troll here.
He loses all credibility, not that he's ever earned any to begin with.
How childish!
Seems its only acceptable in their eyes to criticise Washington when there is a Democrat in office.
It isnt the protestors they should be worried about coming home to, but rather a police state headed by those who have a spent their entire careers waiting for just a time such as this to concentrate power into the fewest hands as possible.
Will they remain true their claims and lead a revolution back home when the truth finally penetrates their military conditioning? I suspect they will prefer to kick in the doors of "liberals" and drag them off in the night.
Of course then they will have to rationalise having become as bad as the Baathists from whom they are supposedly "liberating" the people of Iraq.
Would that you could at least get ONE thing correct, someday...
I am a Marine. I have never claimed to be Spec Ops.
But then, when ever did a liberal give a damn about reality, but simply prefer to live within their chosen delusional wetdream of what they wish it could be...
You will fit in well with the clandestine-collaborator. He does not give a damn about accuracy, either...
No. Lot's of liberals, there.
Ironside(d) was banned because it is an idiot.
But you will find out, soon enough...
I suppose I am a collaborator. I collaborate with any and all who wish to hold our elected leaders accountable for a political agenda predicated upon lies and duplicity that is undermining our Constitution, the rule of law (which they clearly hold themselves above), and the international integrity of our country.
Matters which clearly you have no interest in whatsoever.
Carry on with your vitriole. Its grown quite amusing actually.
That explains a lot. I thought you seemed very immature to have ever been in the Special Forces. My bad.
thanatos, you were banned here. Why not just leave? You are the one that carried on about this site at mil.com. That's how I found my way here. You have all your boo-foo pals coming here to sign-up, but totally freak-out when I invite people here to visit mil.com. Why's that?
This site comes from the UK, in case you haven't noticed. Hanoi Jane went to Hanoi to protest the war. I disagree with that action.
I am at a web site of OUR ALLIES, where these people have family and friends or just good countryman dying with American soldiers in Iraq to liberate people that don't seem to want us there.
mil.com banned me for my views and now they want me to shut-up here too. They want the truth squelched. Sorry, mil.com you have led me here. Thank you thanatos! This place seems to understand the world outside of military life much better than so many at mil.com do.
Now, don't be mistaking peeps. mil.com has some very fine people there. Even some right wingers that were logical and objective. But, for the most part they are warmongers that refuse to see, acknowledge or even learn the truth.
Ironside, recruiting trolls...(Click on this link)
I think they are obsessed with me.
What do you think?
Not to mention the token rip off of my commentary on their precious "circle jerk".
And of course, the thread as it stands ends with the hilariously hypocrticial comment about Frenchmen stroking each others egos when in fact just about every thread Ive read there which even remotely attempts to examine any questions of significance descends into precisely the same sort of patented personal attacks and self congratulatory ego stroking the poster wishes to condemn others for.
Truly the blind leading the blind.
