Does anyone know why it is called getting "stoned"?
May I suggest something less violent sounding.... "sponged"?

and btw no idea why it's called 'stoned'.
:eek2:
ADJECTIVE: Slang Drunk or intoxicated.
ETYMOLOGY: Earlier stone, shortening of stone-drunk, drunk senseless, very drunk.
That's what my bartleby.com search came up with......
Hmmm... but in that case - why "stone-drunk"? Maybe "as drunk as a stone is hard (i.e. very)" or something. (*clutches at straws*)
arent u confusing when jesus was hit with rocks and fell from his donkey with jesus being stoned off his ass?
Just 'cus it is. Whatever you want to think, then think that.
nooo thats no good, i want to know the real & definate answer too, not just the one me thinks is the real answer. guess its jsut one of those things. And if it does come from stone drunk i want to know why thats called stone drunk..
Glad someone shares my curiosity. Here's proof that drugs don't turn you into mindless zombies. Oh and if anyone fancies a laugh, check this out...
