This is scary...for the lives that could be lost and for the economic consequences.
June 24, 2003 -- PARIS - The United Nations will issue a report next week showing Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network has some 800 members ready to strike economic or tourist targets, a French consultant to the report said yesterday.
Roland Jacquard, head of the International Observatory on Terrorism, said bin Laden sent a "third generation of al Qaeda" from Afghanistan before U.S.-led forces toppled Kabul's Taliban regime in November 2001.
The U.N. report would show "that before Sept. 11, Osama bin Laden anticipated the American attack and sent out about 800 fighters from Afghanistan, all top officers of al Qaeda," Jacquard told France 2 television.
He said they had apparently picked economic and tourist sites as their next targets.
Thailand had recently arrested suspected militants in possession of the radioactive material cesium, he said.

I see the justification for the war as being that the Iraq that was created...with no fly zones...and enemy that was created in Saddam...made Iraq the kind of terroritory Al Qaeda thrives in.
But what do you think of the UN's report Clandestine? Also, is it a coincidence that it is being released so close to the major summer holiday in the US: the 4th of July?
Time we stopped playing the imperialist conquerers for Bush and his corporate cronies and brought our boys home where they belong.
The fact that there are aspects of the operational structure of the UN as an institutitional body that require reform (like all huge institutions require periodically) in no way lessens their importance.
Perhaps instead of only copy pasting the text of reports, you could post the link to the reports as well like the rest of us do.
Thanks.
