When me and my family were about to have Christmas dinner, the one thing I didn't want to happen happened. Argument.

My parents had yule log with my brother earlier, and I got left out and wasn't told about it. I often get left out of things because my parents spend so much time with my brother and I don't usually care, but I feel kind of upset right now.

@Nemuritai it is awful of your parents to not bother doing the very simple task of telling you they were going to have some yule log but they tell your brother and disregard. I really hope you got some though because it seemed like you did.

I really appreciate that @so_very_tired, thank you. I haven't had any yet but I'll get some later with a coffee. I feel kind of hurt to be honest but it really helps being heard here.

@Nemuritai I'm going to be free for the next few minutes so I'm here if you want to chat about anything.

@so_very_tired that means a lot. Did you get anything nice for Christmas? Only if you'd like to share, of course

I just got a bunch of clothes and chocolate. It's not a lot but I'm getting some upgrades to my PC in the new year. What have you gotten for Christmas?

Aw that sounds good. I got some books, a couple of stuffed animals and an Ado blanket which I'm very happy about (Ado is my absolute favourite singer ever and I adore her hehe)

I knew you got some books and some of them are written in Japanese, very impressive. I have been told it is very hard for people in the west to learn Japanese.

Aw thank you  it is fairly difficult but being able to read proper books in the language now makes it worth it.

Ever wanted to go to Japan @Nemuritai once you perfected Japanese and had the money to do so?

I would love that, absolutely. I don't know whether I'd ever have the money to do so but if I could afford it, that would be amazing. If the worst came to the worst, I know enough Japanese to go up to a stranger and say I'm lost and don't know where I am

I wouldn't mind going to Japan as I think they have a beautiful culture and they look pretty advance compared to the UK. At the same time though, I don't know Japanese. The only Japanese I know it Konichawa, I think that's hello, I am aware their are signs in English in Tokyo I believe, but I have been told that locals dislike foreigners due how some of them treat and outright disrespect the culture. I know it isn't everyone, but I'd rather not feel like a nuisance.

Morning everyone, I hope today is as fun or peaceful as you'd like it to be. Take care of yourselves, I care about you all so much

@so_very_tired I just wanted to say thanks for the chat yesterday, it really helped. I usually feel really alone on Christmas so it meant a lot to be able to talk to someone

Aw I get that  I sometimes feel like my brain hasn't switched off even though I've been asleep - sometimes doing things that feel restful during the day as well can be helpful

Things feel overwhelming like I just had to pump my tires and I used to enjoy thus type of stuff, doing basic checks on the car etc but now I just feel like "ffs I got to check my tyres" or check stuff or whatever. I just don’t have much to get excited for too like I've not found anything I enjoy which is tough. I don't really like going out to the pub with my mates or whatever, I dont like holidays etc

@Redemption , that sounds overwhelming, and I hear you noticing that change in how you're feeling too - with all the stress and overwhelm of the festive season, the kinds of things you used to enjoy are starting to feel like chores maybe. What do you feel like you might need this afternoon? I really hope you can get a bit of rest or a break from everything, because it sounds like its been a lot on top of starting your new role too, and all the emotions tied into that.

@Nemuritai , I'm sorry to hear you're feeling a bit triggered today. What does feeling triggered look like for you? We're here to explore that with you and listen if it would feel helpful to talk, however, there's no pressure around that too. I hope you can also find some rest and calm today

Thank you Sian, I appreciate it. Feeling triggered for me is usually upsetting memories coming up because of something happening that reminds me of it. I end up feeling a bit shaky afterwards and generally feel the need to take things slowly for a bit, which is what I've been doing today. I got a really lovely blanket for Christmas and I spent the afternoon snuggled up with a coffee which was nice. I hope you're doing well
  • Sian321Sian321 Community Manager Posts: 3,283 Boards Guru
That sounds hard, @Nemuritai , particularly to be left feeling shaken afterwards. Taking today slowly sounds like a really kind and self-compassionate thing to do for yourself, and so lovely to be snuggled up with a coffee! If there's anything around those memories you'd find helpful to share, we're here with you. And at the same time, I hear that grounding yourself back in the here-and-now with cosy things is helping you to feel safe again, which is wonderful

I appreciate the reply and you're understanding @Sian321 I think maybe if I have a nap and maybe a chat on another service and just take things easy

Ive been quite overwhelmed, but things are still super new to me like my routine has changed so I think im just adjusting and push through different things but I know I will get there. I feel a bit better, having a bit of a nap earlier, hopefully its not temporary because this is how can be, mood going up and down
