Testing New Text Box
Hey Community,
We’re just letting you know that on Thursday 26th June between 9am and 11am we’ll be testing a new text box on the discussion boards. At 11am we'll switch it back to the usual text box.
We’ve set up this thread so if you notice any tech issues with typing out new posts or comments then please let us know here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! For now we’re just trialing it to see what it’s like.
Feel free to also have a play around with the different functions down below and let us know what you think!

New text box is live folks until 11am
not to be that person but it is actually horrible haha, i don’t at all like it and tbh, it would put me off using the boards if this is permanent
Totally valid @shannon_164 ! Unfortunately the text box we have at the moment is a little outdated and we believe it's causing some tech issues (like the mentioning other users issue) so we are looking into more updated versions. Very useful to hear your thoughts on how you find it though! Feel free to have a play around with the functions - all feedback is welcomed
I have noticed there doesn't seem to be a preview post option hmm
it won’t let me tag anyone anymore:/ this one is making things sm harder for me (don’t wanna go into detail on here about it, sorry, but i guess it falls under accessibility? idk) also everytime i try to post now i have to save it as a draft and refresh the page to then be able to post after refreshing as it wont let me just post automatically…

Cheers @shannon_164 ! From the screen recording I can see the drop down appears at the start but then strangely disappears. Have you tried logging out, closing the tab, the creating a new tab and logging back in?

oh really @katie ? i didn’t even notice it was appearing at the start! i’m definitely not getting any accounts showing though when i try. i’ve logged out & back in, created new tabs etc - i’ve also tried on both my phone and laptop too and the issue is the same on both
I never use the preview button so that’s not an issue for me but it’s defo disappeared
I just had to log out and in again to get the tagging to work but it’s so different

So what I'm hearing is:
Let me know if you have any more feedback please team! We've switched it back to the normal text box now so you shouldn't have any of these issues (fingers crossed!). As I said earlier, we were just testing this for now and this isn't a current permanent change.
The first thing i noticed was that my screen reader (apple voiceover on iPhone 14 running iOS 17) didn’t announce when I was pressing the return key. Every other key was fine
This is really difficult to describe without showing you (wish there was a way i could actually show you) but when i went to the box, it would tell me some of the keyboard commands I could use. I use a wireless keyboard attached to my phone when I’m at home, so in theory I should be able to use these. One of them was CTRL + shift + P for the paragraph menu, and CTRL + shift + I for the formatting menu. I tried both of these on my phone’s keyboard and neither of them worked.
If it’s tested again, please can you let me know so I can test it out on my laptop as well? I didn’t have time to do that this morning
We can definitely do another round of testing next week if that works? I'll keep you updated!
Basically with the current text box being a bit outdated, we're likely to see more and more tech issues, such as the current issue at the moment where mentioning other users is a little faulty. Although I appreciate it was also faulty with the new text box we tested today too. This is just an option and we'll keep speaking to our tech team about where to go from here
I don’t know, some of these new things are actually worse than the old ones accessibility wise - you’d think it would have come on a bit since these things were first made
