This morning, I messaged my friends after chatting with them last night, just saying hi and checking in. I noticed they’d seen the messages but didn’t respond, so I followed up a couple more times, thinking maybe it was a glitch or something was wrong. Eventually, they replied and said they wanted to take a break from me because I was swearing during our conversation and it's really offended / upset them. To be clear, I wasn’t swearing at anyone I was just venting about something, like calling United’s performance “shit.” I understand that not everyone is comfortable with swearing, and I would’ve been more than happy to talk it through calmly if it was an issue. I still am. If they need space, I’ll do my best to respect that. I just feel that what happened was relatively minor (though I admit I might be biased), and it would’ve made a big difference if they’d just said something right away instead of leaving me on seen that silence left me confused and overthinking. I know nobody is obligated to reply to messages, but I also think a little courtesy and communication goes a long way. Just a quick message can prevent a lot of unnecessary stress. That said, I’m open to hearing other perspectives I know I might not have the full picture.
