so, i was prescribed fluoexetine. I used to take propanolol but it didnt help.
I and feel depressed alot (but not right now) and i am easily irritable. I also have anxiety quite often and i couldnt get a job because of all of this.
january 2024 i had to do an autism assessment and it was very likely im autistic, i have family members who are also autistic and i get irritated easily by sounds and textures and even lights, and i cant concentrate on liteerally anything. im too scared to try fluoexetine even though i really wanted to get on it for so long, because im not rlly depressed rn, but i was kinda when i was prescribed it, i still get alot of anxiety, especially when i leave the house and i overthink alot, and im still kinda irritable i hoped that fluoexetine would stop my sensory problems, but im worried if ill get serotonin syndrome or something.

I mean, i get anxious alot and overthink and its hindering me but im not depressed (at the moment)

    10mg really isn’t a lot. I take 20mg fluoxetine now but I started on 10mg.
    TW: mention of weight
I was/am very underweight and my doctor was happy to prescribe it to me. They chose fluoxetine specifically because it had the lowest starting dose.
I don’t think I was depressed, I take it for anxiety but I’m also autistic.

I think you are likely to get some side effects when you first start taking it, as your body adjusts. It’s different for everyone but I was very tired and it made my anxiety worse for a few weeks. It was hard but eventually it made a positive difference.

I think serotonin syndrome is unlikely, as long as you take it as prescribed and don’t go doubling up on doses or anything. You could talk to your doctor about it if it’s worrying you though.

You don’t have to take it if you don’t want to though, of course <3

As someone who was prescribed fluoxetine for OCD, I think im on a very low dosage in general, I found it affected my ADHD more I dont know if its just me. But I feel like it made me more aware and hyper active sometimes because it tended to boost my mood a lot sometimes. For me I found it helpful combating intrusive thoughts as well as dealing with my OCD and also anxiety. As @AnonymousToe said sometimes when you first start on fluoxetine you can get some mild side effects as your body adjusts to the medication. I found the first few weeks I tended to have headaches and acid reflux (which I can still get but its not as bad as it used to be). If you do feel concerened about taking it and want to explore other options, I'll definitely say to chat to your GP to discuss things going forward. Fluoxetine can be a mix bag medication, for some it works and helps ease things but for others it doesn't always do this. Im always here if you want to have a chat too as well <3.

I'm on propanalol 10mg, and I have no clue whether this helps I take it on a prn basis, as per needed basis.
I think it can help settle feelings of anxiety but to fair like nmwhen I'm in a massive overload (I have autism as well) I don't take it its the last thing I remember and not something I want in my mouth. So I tend to take it as a 'pre caution'

Hi @PetiteQuark im not really sure about the sensory stuff to be honest, i don’t think it was anything I really noticed at least. It does make my mood better generally which can make it easier to cope with sensory issues? I’m not sure. I can’t really remember how it was before I started taking it.

Hey @Invisible_me ive been taking propranolol for anxiety for 4 years now. I take it about an hour before something stressful/ anxiety-inducing is due to happen (my prescription is up to 3 times per day so I take one in the morning every day and any extras if needed later). It doesn’t ease my actual anxious thoughts but it helps ease the physical effects of anxiety, like it slows my heart rate and I’m not so shaky. I take the fluoxetine alongside for the psychological stuff.
