Next steps for me

I'm still working to move forward. On Friday, I attended a recruitment day that I booked just a few days prior. It was a spontaneous opportunity, so I thought I might as well give it a try and see what comes from it. The event included an activity and interviews near the end, and I should receive feedback and outcomes next week. I'm trying to stay positive, but at the same time, I don’t want to take it too hard if I don’t get the job. One challenge I faced was answering some of the questions, as I don’t have a lot of work experience. I tried to use examples from my volunteering and college when workplace examples weren’t required, and I was told that was okay.

I also recently decided to start counselling, and I have my first session, an intro session, on Thursday. It costs £10 per session for lower-income individuals, which is manageable, especially compared to the full price of £60 per session. Hopefully, it will help me move forward. I do have a bit of a pathway, but nothing is guaranteed. Over the past year, I’ve had a few opportunities that didn’t get me where I wanted to be, so I’m hoping that what I’ve got coming up will help me or at least that I get the right support to reach my goals. It’s just been hard to feel positive lately because I feel like things haven’t been going my way. I’m still carrying on with my volunteering role but I really want to transition into paid work soon.

    hey @Redemption 🙂

ahh that is amazing that you took the chance and went to the recruitment day, especially on such short notice! putting yourself out there like that is a big step, and no matter the outcome, you should be really proud of yourself. it sounds like you handled the interviews well, especially by using examples from your volunteering and college experience. employers understand that not everyone has extensive work experience, and the fact that they told you it was ok shows that they valued what you had to share. i really hope you get good news next week, but even if it doesn’t go as planned, just remember that every experience like this is helping you grow and get closer to where you want to be.

it is also really great to hear that you’re starting counselling! that is such a positive step, and i really hope it gives you the support and guidance you need to move forward. it’s completely understandable to feel discouraged when things don’t seem to be going your way, but you’re doing all the right things, seeking out opportunities, staying open to support, and continuing to push forward even when it’s tough. that takes a lot of strength.

i know you’re eager to transition into paid work, and i truly believe you’ll get there. you have already been gaining valuable skills through volunteering, and all the effort you’re putting in will pay off. just keep going, and don’t be too hard on yourself. progress doesn’t always happen as quickly as we want, but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening. you are doing so well, and i hope you give yourself credit for that.

i’m so so proud of you <3

    Hey @Redemption ,

Firstly, it feels so positive that you took the opportunity to attend the recruitment day! It can take a lot of courage to do something spontaneous like that, and to put yourself in a situation where you're practising your skills and recieving feedback! That can feel vulnerable, and I wonder if you felt proud of yourself for going along? :star: Using your volunteering and workplace experience to respond to the interview question sounds like a really positive and creative choice (thinking on the spot like that can be so tricky!!), and even if those experiences are not of 'paid' work, it is still valid and worthy work nontheless! It sounds like you were fast-thinking in that moment.
I also recently decided to start counselling, and I have my first session, an intro session, on Thursday.

This also feels so positive @Redemption , and I wish you the very, very best with your counsellor. It is valid that right now feeling optermistic day-to-day is hard, and I hope that your therapy room can be a space where all of your feelings, doubts, and worries are welcomed and listened to. These last few years have been hard in different ways, and it sounds really self-caring to be organising a space where you can process this together with someone else and to get support working towards your future goals.

Keep us posted with anything you like, Redemption. We'll be rooting for you!

@Sian321 Sorry for the late reply, I kept forgetting to respond to you thank you so much for your kind words and support! It really means a lot. The recruitment day was a big step for me, and while it felt nerve-wracking, I’m glad I went for it. I appreciate your encouragement, and I’ll definitely keep you posted.
