Forum descriptions: what should they do?

Hey lovely people,
We haven't updated or
looked at the forum descriptions in an incredibly long time, and we
thought it might be time to blow the dust off them and give them a new
feel. We want you all to help us do that. 
The first thing we want to know is: what purpose should these descriptions serve?
Currently, some are more informative and let people know what the forum is for:


And some are a bit more fun/abstract, and function more as flavour text:
