I'm in year 11 and got my exams in June so I may be posting prematurely but they ain't that bad.
The exams are in tiers so its not like everyone of all abilities is doing the same stuff. Coursework really is what you make it - your taught what you need to know and then its about what you include and how much time you spend on it.
The idea of GCSEs was that the government wanted somethin everyone could pass. Everyone gets a grade at the end of the two years (assuming you turn up, do courseowrk etc). Depending on what you wanna do after (I dont expect you to know cos I didn't) you'll need to set your targets accordingly - some are five C's while others are five E's.
The actual stuff your being taught is better and more interesting (especially if your takin modern world history ) which helps you to enjoy it. For my strongers subjects I can aim where I like but French and Tech, being weaker subjects, I just wanna C (C is generally regarded as a pass). You can aim where you like
You'll get oppurtunities to practice revision and exams (Year 10 and mocks most noticeably).
Don't worry about it. You can drop music and art (my very weak subjects), you're doin well for yourself and you can leave in two years (even though I'm stayin to do A levels )
So there you go... make of it what you want, enjoy it. Work hard and you'll get what you want...
What I can remember from them though, is that compared to A-level, they are a walk in the park.
As long as you either:
1.Know the subjects well
2.Revise for about 2 hours a night
then you will be fine. The subjects themselves are not that hard, but a lot of them are boring. If you try and stay interested in whatever it is you are doing then they aren't so bad.
good luck

wow! are you guessing, cos for the higher tier at my school you have to get a really high mark to get a grade C!
Work as hard as you can on any coursework brcause this will boost your grade. And only choose the tier that you think that you will achieve your best in. For Example If you have taken a higher paper in Science and only just scrapped a C grade then talk to your teachers about doing the foundation because that is what i did and i am now online for a high C which i will be happy with.
Just do lots of revision! Trust me it helps!
