I think i'm going to develop a gambling addiction..

Hi all,

I was stuck in bed yesterday with a heavy cold/flu so I ended up signing up for an online multiplayer poker site (William Hill). Deposited £25 and had a few games. I started playing low stake matches, but leaving the tables £2 up from when I entered so I went into some of the larger stakes.

To cut a long story short, I cleaned the table in a few games and ended up with £90 more than when I started just half an hour earlier. Naturally I was hooked then, but certain I could get more so I carried on playing (I should have withdrew at that point £25 in retrospect).

Lost it all over about 3 hours, was feeling guttered so I put in another £10 and literally lost it in 5 mins  .

The problem is, I really, really feel an urge to go for it again - but I'm pretty concious that this is probably one of the first steps to gambling addiction. Should I just uninstall the software and never think about it again? The only problem with that is I have a nagging thought that I can recoup the loss(Which is £35) .. Gah.

Uninstall it and never think about it again if you dont want to get an addiction.

0800 856296 is william hills customer service number, call them and ask them to lock your account so you cant play it (they all have this little service where they will close your account)

Basicly you will NEVER get more money out than you put into it on a game of luck like poker - yes yes its not about luck but it is on the internets where they refresh decks every game to stop you card counting - and if you think you can make money from it then you will hopefully learn quickly that you cant.

Poker isn't complete luck. Certainly, its luck as to which cards you are dealt - but it takes skill to know how to play them. That's why the top players are consistently the top money earners. If it was luck, then you would see random faces at the top tables in the finals. They LOVE it when they play people who think it is just 'luck' because then they can take 'em to the cleaners. Good poker tactics require lots of reading of strategy and understanding card and pot odds.

You don't card count with poker. You card count with games like Black Jack. In poker, the deck is shuffled every time a new round is dealt. And remember, you're not playing the casino - you are playing other players. The casino just gets a cut from the table fees/antes etc.
