i've bought 2 really cool books - anticraft and domiknitrix and they have some amazing patterns in there for knitting and crochet, but they are american, and thus i'm finding it really hard to get the spesified wool on the net. So, i'm trying to find equivilants but i need to actually see it because i need to see the gauge and make sure its the same as the pattern (or the other wool if its intentionally tight)...i've found exactly the same problem with my stitch and bitch books i should have checked before i bought these!
So, where is good to buy in london, or online but from the UK - but like i said i am struggling to find the right thing...
and is there a cheap way of doing it, because almost all the wools spesified are alpaca, merino, and other lovely but extortionatly priced wools...?
thanks!

As for subs, I would look on ravelry. Can't really comment on subs without knowing what the pattern is.
i shall give iknit and socktopus a go though!
Get Knitted good for the American basics - Lamb's Pride and Cascade. Loop also sell Cascade (they're in Islington nr. Essex Road).
If you are buying in quantities for clothing try Abakhan online, they often have packs for less money.
