this should be in the work forum probably, but i need quick replies.
just started a new job in a restaurant last week and had 4 trial shifts. the manager said we'd sit down and discuss what was happening about me getting the job properly after my last trial shift but we didnt. then i phoned the place last night and found out id been given a weeks worth of shifts. so i think i got the job lol.
anyway, as i didnt know i would be working there for definate, i said i would go out with dinner with my bf, his dad and stepmum tonight and didnt think id need to book it off. but theyve given me a shift. i would like to go out for dinner, we hardly see my bfs dad and stepmum.
so whats a convincing excuse for phoning in sick? cos im working at 12 on tuesday so it cant be that ive broken my leg or something. not sure i wanna do the whole "im not feeling well" thing, its not that convincing.

What you should have done was when you rang up and they gave you your shifts is explain that you didn't know you'd got the job and you've got an important family meeting that night and could you start a day later. They'd have most likely said yes
bugger. i think so too tbh. not sure if i can ask for it off, as i was supposed to work last saturday as part of my trial but i asked for it off as i had planned a night out for my bf's birthday before i knew i would get the job. would be a bit rubbish if i asked twice.
will just have to see if it can be re-arranged or just send the bf without me. ah well. cheers for the replies
