am still a devoted MacOS fan, grew up with it and shit.
use windows because of compatibility, and it's what my mum could get cheaply.

Linux wa supposed to be WIndows' #1 competition cos the source code's free and you can tweak it to your own liking .. personally i think Linux is OK, but everyone's, sadly, used to Windows.

I'm also going to download a copy of Linux Mandrake and get back into the habit of using some decent kernals.. <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/smile.gif">
and so what if u can tweak it to ur own liking. most people ar ehappy enuff with teh customizability of windows. i've never been a big one for skins or what have you, and that extends to OS function as well. if windows doesn't do something like i want it to, there's generally a program out there that will.

i'm a friend of emma's who uses linux and talks over MSN and Yahoo with Jabber. don't know if she was talking about me or not though.... <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/confused.gif">
but back to original post on this thread, i have used KDE, but would NOT recommend. It is SUCH a resource hog, worse even than windows! <IMG alt="image" SRC="http://www.thesite.org/ubb/eek.gif">
i would recommend a much lighter WM, like IceWM or BlackBox... ok, so they don't have some of the fancy features of KDE, but it'll turn your computer into a speed demon!
yeah i was, i just forgot to tell you!

on the contrary, i think faaaaar too many people have got KDE... and it's craaaaaap! the only redeeming feature is anti-aliased fonts, but that's kinda hard to get working on most graphics cards!
run top and see how much memory KDE is taking up... then try it with IceWM... biiig difference! (50Mb for KDE and 2Mb for IceWM last time i checked). fundamentally, they both do exactly the same thing. they allow you to run and manage graphical applications in windows (no capital 'W').
most of my time in linux is not spent in a graphical interface anyway. it's slow, clunky and unnecessary. virtually all tasks can be performed much more quickly from the console!
