I go to a rock club virtualy every week and it's getting to the point were all band sound the same.
It's like metal-by-numbers. "Erm, right. If we have erm, loud guitars and erm, a singer that growls like a bear then we'll be dead sucessful."
I'm getting a little bored of guitar bands anyway. Everyone's starting to sound like everyone else, and it's not interesting anymore.
The last beutiful free soul on this planet.
So 'Pop' music as it were would never go out of fashion unless music did.. which I don't think will happen...
More to the point I think the argument your trying to bring to surface is that 'Rock' music is coming back in...
In that argument I'd like to say if we look at the way music such as dance has evolved:
1980s - Electro-Dance
1980s - Northern Soul
1988-91 - Acid House
1991-93 - Hardcore
1992-94 - D&Bass / Jungle
1993-95 - Speed Garage
1994-97 - Happy Hardcore
1994-97 - House / Garage
1998-99 - Trance
1999-00 - UK Garage
2000-01 - Hard House
2001-? - Hard NRG (thats my guess)
Basically what I'm saying is that music constantly disappears and reinvents itself slightly.. take: Speed Garage > House/Garage > UK Garage

yes, pop is an abbreviation of popular music. but i also think that pop has now taken on its own genre...the britney/a1 soft beat, nice lyrics sorta thing (u know what i mean).
and this is the pop that powerslave is talking about.
and yes, it is shite.
and yes, it is on the way out.
and yes, muse do rule.
Look into these tired eyes. See something you might recognise.
Never put off to tomorrow what you can avoid altogether.
i know it's easy to dismiss a whole genre based on a few acts, but why take the chance on missing something you might like?
like turtle and robbie williams. robbie can be easily dismissed as pop crap and is by many. but he took the time to listen to it and likes it and appreciates it, and that's really all the counts.

i think me and emma would agree with most of what u say - muse, ash, starsail, king adora, my vitriol etc are all great.
however, u didn't win ANY friends by badmouthing phonics and feeder. we both actually do quite like them an awful helluva lot.
so nah! :P

Yep and I also like the phonics so to Zero. I also like Limp Wristed as you refer to them as. I haven't heard much of Feeder's music so I can't really say how good they are but what i have heard seems pretty good

Rock and Metal are more popular than they ever have been, but it's still rock / metal music and NOT pop rock, or pop metal ... that confuses all the little kids who are boyband fans, or Britney fans.
I agree with you that music cycles around the years and that's just the way it is ... it's a bit like fashions ... it's another trend and it goes through highs an lows.

It depends which bands you are talking about. If your talking about the likes of Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine etc then yes they do all sound the same to the untrained ear but there are some talented metal bands out there such as Metallica, Fear Factory, Sepultura and KoRn to name but a few.
At the end of the day, different people have different tastes and there will never be one band or solo artist that everyone likes so we'll have to put up with the teenie boppers for years to come
I'll stick with my rock/metal music

We all have our likes & dislikes, don't we?! Tastes overlap.
No you're partly right.
These current bands were influenced by other older bands, Iron Maiden, Metallca, Judas Priest to name a few .... without these influences who knows what they'd be doing now, and what their music would sound like.
So, undoubtedly, you cant say the current revival is due to Papa Roach and all the Nu-Metal crap .... rock is massive and the famous names only play a small part of it.
How many nu-metal bands will there be in say .. 5 or 10 years time?
Bands like Iron Maide, Judas Preist and Metallica are LEGENDARY and will be here forvever .. nu-metal is a subset of pop and it's a current trend that'll will die a death in time.
