cuteness!!!
This puppy is 7 weeks old and was donated to the charity from a litter, we're just waiting for a vacant puppy socialiser that can have him till he's old enough for training. So im taking him home for a few nights after work
I think im in love!
hah too late for that! Its a lesson i have to learn though as i will do this lots in the future.
Aww no, I'd hate to have to give him back. Do the blind people get the dogs for free?
deaf people
Yeh the recipients get them for free but can make a donation. It costs thousands to train one up though!
Sorry i didn't realise i put blind.
Do you not get any funding other than donations then? What's your role there?
The charity has no government funding, so all money comes from donations.
Im a welfare officer. I do a wide range of stuff in my role, anything you can imagine involving dogs really!
That sounds like a real nice job to have, especially with working with all those puppies all the time but is the pay half decent if you don't mind me asking?
I can be doing anything from picking up rescue dogs coming into the centre, to health care, training, enriching them, dirty work, exercising, assessing.
Its decent enough for me. Its probably what alot of people would consider a small wage, for what is extremely physical, demanding and stressful work at times.
But im working for a charity, im never going to get rich from it. Im not in the job for the money.
I live onsite for excellently low rent so im able to save quite well. But it does mean i have to be on call!!
Yeah of course, I'm sure the satisfaction from the job makes the wage not so much of an issue.
Living on site must save a lot too so it can't be bad. Did you have to go through training yourself to be able to train the dogs?
oh wow, those dogs must be amazing. It makes me feel all fuzzy to think how much these dogs change peoples lives.
Well im not a trainer so i dont have to have trainer training, but i do get assessments and exams to move up through levels. I did a degree in behaviour so i already know how to do what training i do with them
I like you. What a decent person you are.
All the best. :thumb:
what a fab job!
 Most definatly. I'm sure its such a rewarding job too.
