Why do some people use drugs and others not ?

Its a funny old buisness ain't it ?
I mean deep down we all know they are bad for us, yet they have been so good to us. What is it all about, is about enhancing life or detaching yourself from life ?
Are we proud of drug use ? Ususally not, we are indifferent, neither proud nor ashamed, sort of stuck somewhere inbetween, to use its just a high, to those who've never had the experience its a dubious activity, something which they think they understand to an extent, yet they do not at all, but never the less chose to stay clear.
Why do some of us use drugs and others not ? Is it genetic ? A certain inbuilt element, or do we somehow gain the curiosity from an unknown source ?
We as drug users believe those who chose not to indulge are missing out, almost to the point where we believe everyone should try drugs, the morning after your first pill, its almost as if you feel the urge to inform your parents that pills are fuckin excellent, that if only the whole world could be on pills.
Then within the brotherhood of druggies we have more conflict, what, how much, how often is acceptable, who goes too far, the boundaries by which we distinguish use and abuse, normality and stupidity.
Why ? Surely with something so sceintific in nature, there would be scales from which to work ? But no, everything is so subjective, in muct the same way been high can't be explained, why are the words not there ?
Why do I as a 20 year old student from a certain background, chose to do drugs, whereas another 20 year old from a similar background chose not to ?
Why do I as a 20 year old student find it O.K to do pills and weed, whereas another only find it O.K to smoke weed ?
It can't really be pinned to the effects of the substance on the individual, after all some make a decision having never had the experience.

Yes, life is full of differences and it is interesting to look at psychology to work out why people behave differently.
To answer the question, I don't know. Some people are more reckless, some people find a "buzz" off something in their life which fulfils their needs, some people see drugs close up which puts them off.
Then there is fashion, certain drugs go in and out of fashion.
yes, but you'd decide whether you want sugar in your tea based on having tried it <IMG SRC="wink.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
Its also the illeagl element which makes it more intresting, I mean I guess you can exclude weed from the argument, because thats lame as drugs go, but as I said in a round about way, most decisions are based of experiences and education, drug use is not, the only real positive of drugs is how they make you feel, something you can't consider in your decision, so what makes people decide to ?
What personality trait is fairly typical in a drug user ?

I think some people dont like the feeling of unable to control themselves, therefore they dont want to take drugs. Yet they know the fantasic scene drugs could bring them to, but they would rather stay in control.
no idea <IMG SRC="smile.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">
Starting off with weed, i think it was a case of 'Looking for something different to try'. There was no peer pressure involved, just my intrigued mind.
Pills is a different story. I remember back in school we had one of 'Drugs are bad mmmkay' talks from the police. My mind was set, I would never do pill, acid or such like.
Fast forward a few years and my opinions began to change. I started to do a little research of my own on pills, hence how i found this place. I gradually came to the conclusion that it wasn't all that bad, in fact it can be all good.
Some a couple of weeks back, i dropped for the first time, and I fucking loved it! There are times when i've been gagging to tell certain people, but have refrained, in fear if there reaction.
Anyway, I'm begining to ramble now.....
