Matress turning

In an Agatha Christie book i read recently there's a line said, by Miss Marple, about her maid and matress turning.

Something along the lines of 'She was always to be relied upon to turn the matress everyday, except Friday, of course.'

Why not Friday ? Is it some kind of old superstition that you shouldn't turn your matress on a Friday ?

    If she's rich enough to have a maid maybe she had a second home in devon that she vists on the weekends.

    Actually I don't have a clue, and it will anoy me :)

    I believe 'mattress turning' is a niche sexual practice prevalent in the West Pennines. It is said to have evolved from the penal system.

    Be careful when doing your household chores, bad luck to turn your mattress on a Friday, and remember that if you turn it from foot to head, you'll never wed. Even changing your sheets on a Friday will bring nightmares to your sleep.

    Also you can't turn the mattress om a sunday either lol

    Ooo...where did you find that? Tried googling it for aaages but couldn't find a thing! (Well OK...not aaages, but longer than is strictly healthy....:blush: )

    lol I just typed in a few key words and it came up on the first page. I use google scholar alot for my course so I'm an expert at finding what I want quickly :p
