Does anyone have any idea how much it costs to have a capet fitted?
It's to go in a standard room, four straight walls, 3m x 2m. Getting the carpet from B&Q who don't have a fitting service.

Easier said than done. You need the equipment. My step dad is a carpet fitter and he has all kinds of random things. It doesn't look like an easy job tbh.
I am not sure about the costs because we have all ours fitted for free! I'll get my Mum to ask my step dad. I think it varies company to company though.
Price is dependant on product, whether there's uplift and furniture, whether or not it needs prep (screed, underlay, gripper, door bars) etc etc
Generally just for fitting a standard hessian back carpet with full prep you're looking at around 3 quid a meter or just under. Price can vary a lot to be honest.
With such a small area most fitters won't be intrested.
I wouldn't have paid much more than that though, would have got my dad on the job. DIY dads are the best
Underlay Underlay
Unless he's got some experience than I wouldn't advise you old man attempting to fit carpet onto underlay and grippers in a HSL (hall stairs landing).
If it's straight down carpet i.e without underlay then you can always have a go yourself, though there is no margin for error. All you need is a good knife and plenty of blades, a bolster and an adhesive of some sort (F3 or just Spray Glue).
You juts end up paying over the odds for underlay and gripper though. Allied make very little profit on the actual carpet, they tuck you up on the extras such as doorbars, gripper, and underlay.
He's got no professional experience, but he's put down all the carpets in the houses we've had, underlay and all sorts. He's just a bit iffy about stairs, and considering he's been working his ass off on my house for the last month, I thought I'd give him a break and get some pros in to do it.
Feel I must point out he's not just a bodge job DIY dad, he's a hardened perfectionist. His tiling of my bathroom brought a tear to my eye!
To fit and stretch a carpet properly takes experience, and specialist tools. It took me alsmost a year before I was getting a nice finish on just a simple square room. Staris are easy though, unless you have kite winders and a bullnose.
A properly stretched carpet will look and wear better.
