Please don't trivialise giving up; it is probably one of the hardest drugs to give up because it is so socially acceptable. you can avoid the temptation to take heroin by not going to your old heroin haunts or whatever, but when you try to avoid the temptation to smoke that means avoiding pubs, socialising, meals (I always have a cig after dinner), clubs, newsagents, supermarkets, walking down the street and seeing someone lighting up etc etc....
So good luck to those who have stopped or cut down, you deserve all the support in the world <IMG alt="image" SRC="smile.gif" border="0">
I'm not looking forward to it.
good luck !
I've managed to for the most part, though when I'm around my older friends I do tend to get some, though that's normally a pack a week, as opposed to 30 a day. Even so, I don't think I'll ever get over the feeling that I desperately want one when things go wrong.
My Grandad had a rather attractive 50-a-day habit which ultimately led to his death (an exploding main artery - I kid you not) when he was 65. As a kid, I used to help him roll his cigarettes in those little machine things. I smoke (yes, I'll admit to that), and smoke roll-ups like he did. Maybe it's a psychological thing. I dunno. I smoke maybe one a day. Usually none. I live in a flat with 4 friends, 3 of whom smoke, and who smoke shitloads. I can't stand the dirty overflowing ashtrays, HATE the smell and despise smoky atmospheres. I do, however, enjoy the odd fag.
Now, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Each to their own. However, I must say to everyone out there who has a family member or friend with cancer that they have my deepest sympathy. It's a terrifying disease and more so because we don't understand it yet. I mean, why didn't Dot Cotton die years ago?? Where's the logic in that?
That implies non-smokers don't die, to me its the same old argument, people can do as they please to themselves, i don't smoke, but it pisses me off when people start all this guilt shit, do you eat healthy ? use a mobile ? drive a car ? sun bathe ? drink booze ? take drugs ? walk alone at night ? go on planes ? trains ? well you had better cut down and give up before you have to do the same with your life. Each to their own
Bought a ten pack today...
