Anyone know where I can get these from? My girlfriend has been talking about craving them for weeks (she's not pregnant, she's Polish!) and I can't find anywhere in C. London that sells them. Help!

It's a particular sauce, apparently. I did suggest that, and I got a look.

I lived with a Polish bloke a few years back who used to make something that sounds similar with herring fillets, garlic, dill, hard boiled eggs and sour cream. I doubt you'd be able to buy anything like it over here, as I would guess that in Poland they'd make their own from scratch. I'm sure you could find a recipe on the 'net and give it a blast - I'm sure she'd appreciate the gesture even if they're not quite like mama used to make ;)

There are polish supermarkets scattered all over, I can think of a really nice looking deli in Dalston, on Balls Pond Rd I think, and there is one along Holloway Rd too.

Thanks, Rubberskin, I dug that up earlier. I have to admit I'm quite averse to preparing them 'cos I'm vegetarian (and, more honestly, just don't like cooking fish at all). I'm a bit fussy like that.

LadyJade, I was sure there was one near my old house in Holloway. I might trust that hunch and go on a recce - ta! x

In that context it's just like a really short 'vvv' sound, almost like it's the first letter of the next word.

Anyhoo, I'm sure my mum just gets sledzie ready prepared in a jar from Tesco. Maybe from the world foods aisle? Not sure. Then again, our local Tesco is a bit like a trip to Warsaw, such is the density of Polski peeps in the area.
