    lol so true

a lot of men seem to have this mentality that if you think a girl who they find attractive is ugly, it's because you're jealous :chin:

I don't find her that unbelievably attractive. Ok the "jumping at the chance" thingy is OTT but you can't say she's ugly.

Tbh people of both sexes do it. That bloke can dance/sing/dress well, he must be gay. That guy's well spoken and drives a nice car, he must be a stuck up prick. Just a sign of someone's insecurity to be honest. But I dunno, I reckon girls tend to be more likely to comment (good or bad) on someone else, whereas blokes will tell you what they think if asked directly, but are less likely to bring it up. I can't remember the last time I was out with male friends, and one of them felt the need to comment good or bad on another man.

I can't remember the last time I was out with female friends, and one of them felt the need to comment good or bad on another woman.

Actually I can, but it was in positive terms. I would say women are as likely to compliment another woman as they are to tear strips off her. They also probably have only the same amount of bitchy/kind thoughts about people and situations on average as a lot of men do; but are largely more demonstrative and vocal about how they feel about people (that largely being because it is considered somehow more acceptable for women to have opinions on any and everything... just as long as these women don't actually expect said opinions to be taken seriously or anything like that).

Oh, you're such a cynic. But yeah, that's what I was getting at. Women just have bigger mouths, that's all. :p

    I know.

I just deeply resent women being pigeon-holed as the bitchiest bitch that ever got insanely jealous and bitched... purely because they have the damn nerve to have a vagina and opinions that they're not afraid to voice about issues that people [mostly men] think they can't have a completely objective and valid opinion about.

    Capisce? ;):p

i doubt britters is gonna log on here, and even if she does, i doubt she'd give a shit what people thought :thumb:

Hey you can't make that assumption. Just because she is famous and pretty doesn't mean she doesn't care what people think of her. She could get really upset at people saying nasty comments about her. Just because she is famous doesn't mean she is completly hard and strong. Just think into it further: why has she shaved off her hair? Something (unless it is medical) has drove her to do it, she must be upset or worried about something. :chin:

Well maybe. I mean she has had a lot going on in her life, but then again maybe not.
Its only a hairstyle, albeit drastic.
Ive shaved my hair off before and it didnt mean I needed sectioning.

Actually I think that women are bitchier than men on the whole, and I do think that a lot of bitching is motivated by similar reasons to bullying - insecurity, jealousy and so on. I freely admit that there is nothing (well, almost nothing) more enjoyable than to sit down with my girly mates and metaphorically pull people to pieces over several bottles of wine.

I think you're correct. There are studies (I wish I had time to look for them) that say that women in groups use gossip and bitching as social bonding mechanisms or something. Men apparently don't tend to use these things for social bonding. Perhaps that helps explain why men don't tend to be concerned with celebrity gossip and such, and why women get the unfortunate bitchy tag.

Right, well like everyone else I can only talk about what I know, and it's my experience that when I'm in conversation with female friends or sitting in a pub people watching that any of them are just as likely to make a positive comment about/to someone (be it a friend/accquaintance/complete stranger) as they are to say something bitchy. Obviously everyone has different friends/colleagues/accquaintances, and therefore different experiences of the nature of women (still hating these generalisations). I'm loathe to trust research or studies (reputable as they may be) over my own experience, but of course I'd have to read any such research first. Maybe I'll have a look-see on google some other time.

But yeah... women often like to have a bitch about things or about people -- but the assumption that women are bitches by nature, or that women are generally bitchy is a load of shite in my view. I would say people are often bitchy and competitive and insecure and phony and opportunistic by nature, not women. It's just that it's become a far more acceptable thing for women to sit around bitching than it is for men, as I said before. I don't know, it must be seen as imasculating or something, which I think is a bit sad, as hearing intelligent people comment on others (whether that would qualify as being "a bitch" or not) is incredibly interesting and often insightful... and, if you have the right friends, always amusing. As someone said a while back, men are only likely to make a bitchy comment if it is extracted from them - I think that has got FAR less to do with their less catty, more magnanimous nature than it has to do with fear of being labelled gay or something equally ridiculous if they freely venture such commentary.

    IWS - you're a laugh-riot

As for Britney's hair - the original topic - I think it's a marked improvement on the usual extensions she sports. It might be just what she needs to start a fresh page... though I'd hedge my bets that she'll be visiting a wig specialist before the week is out.

Well, everbody can be really pretty with the hair care/hair products, expensive make-up and somebody who has studied at harvard to apply it to your face.

If you see her in everyday life, with unkempt hair, a baseball cap and a wrinkly t-shirt she doesn't look any different from your Alice whatsherface neighbour.

Not saying she's ugly, because ugly is different. She's really fit, fully furbished up, but just your everyday, good looking girl when she had a quick shower and threw on some simple mascara to hit the grocery store.

I don't see how anyone can call Britney Spears UGLY. She's not. She may not be your cup of tea or she may not strike as you as stunning but she certainly isn't ugly.
Personally I think she's gorgeous. True, her looks have gone downhill but I still think she's very attractive (Ok, so the shaven head doesn't look great).

Oh, and I'd like to add that EVERYONE'S looks start to go eventually. She's hardly going to stay looking how she did in the 'Hit me baby one more time video' forever is she?

I don't think anyone really thinks she's "ugly". I think most people who even give the matter a moment's thought probably think she's overrated and over-hyped... and when you're constantly bombarded with magazines telling you such-and-such of an airbrushed, falsified celebrity is perfect and gorgeous there is bound to be an element of backlash.

Everyone's looks go eventually? She's... what... 25 at most?

Which is why she's still hot. Just she hasn't quite got that special something that she had when she was younger.
