It's a big  from me I'm afraid.

As far as sad songs go, I downloaded the John Williams Schindler's List soundtrack the other week, and it depressed the absolute hell out of me :(

Awesome. There is this live version from the Born in the USA tour where he tells this story about his dad as an introduction and it chokes me up every time. There is also the famous version from the Viet Nam vets show in '81 where he had to stop singing halfway through because he was so upset. Very powerful song, like all of Bruce's really... :thumb:

Lou Reed - Caroline Says 2
Tom Waits - Martha (kinda sad, but I guess more nostalgic - still fucking brillant so I'd put it on a list of best rap or classical if I could!)
Billy Holiday - Strange Fruit / Gloomy Sunday - music that sad, that shocking is only made very, very rarely

Glenn Miller - In the Mood

Although its actually a happy song that people sing and dance to, it was played at my Grandad's funeral.

It gets to me every fucking time I hear it (I remember him doing a little dance when he was alive - he told me he wanted this song played at his funeral and that he wanted everyone to be happy and dancing like he was)

The Beatles - Yellow Submarine and The Beatles- When your 64 remind me of him too. Yet again, they are happy songs that people love but they make me sad as he used to sing them.

    :(

Other sad songs of mine are:
    Christina Aguilera- I'm okay
    Christina Aguilera- Oh Mother
    Christina Aguilera- Walk Away
    Evanescence - My immortal
    The Offspring - Gone away
    Evanescence- Breathe no more
    A few from Snow Patrol
    REM - Everybody hurts
Leanne Rimes - How do I live?

Got loads more tbh but hey ho.

    Pearl Jam - Jeremy

    Especially considering what it's about.

Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer

A lot of their stuff could be considered quite sad I think, especially Bright Eyes (which makes me think of Watership Down). I love their music and a lot of Simons solo stuff. Brilliant.

    Good UK Hip Hop.

    damn, you know taskforce?

    :thumb: excellent.

Don't know that track, will look out for it.

There is a german rap by Blumentopf called 6metre 90, because that's the height the singers sister jumped to death. It's really depressing.

    Furthermore:
Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel - Bridge over troubled waters.
    Aesop Rock - No regrets
Atmosphere - That night (about a fan who killed herself)
Necro - Poetry in the Streets (kind of)
Everything on the album "Hell's Winter" by cage (hell read cage's biography, that's a lot of depression)
    Radiohead - Creep
    Radiohead - Thinking about you.
Beethoven - Mondschein sonate is a sad classical piece too.

Yeah I know them :) When I stayed in london in spring I bought a Taskforce album, and I just got them to know through Jehst (People Under The Weather was recommended to me somewhere back in 2001), and I found out about Braintax when I heard the 'Fingers Deep in the Weedsack' by Jehst and Braintax is the funny rapper in the end.

    You know:
"Play that funky fish beat Louie, my mind ain't a maze like hong kong fui..."
something about, "[...]my colour's much fuller, spitting in the game like *huh* Rudi Völler".
Rudi Völler is a german football player (retired now) who was spit into his afro back in his career, it's an amazing and funny video clip.

Blumentopf (clicky) is an amazing german rap crew making INCREDIBLE witty, and well-thought out lyrics. I can only translate a few, but it ain't half the fun.

there is this track called "Jeder zweite linkt dich", meaning "every other cons you."

"I borrow your playstation and when I got it, I erase 'accidently' your memory card, change the controller with the damaged I still have, return it back and say "with that joypad it ain't fun", so I advice you to buy a new one over ebay, and I sell you your old one under my email adress. So it doesn't get too cheap I am bid on the auction myself, and buy my own playstation from the money you spend."

just imagine it all in rhymes.

Or the track "Da läuft was schief" --> "Something's going wrong here."
Incredibly chilled out bass guitar and amazing woman doing chorus.

"When I'm on the stage and drop my parts, there are more hands in the air than pollutants [...] To rock an audience live is like reading, some people never learn it, but on the mic I have more charisma than nuclear energy." (note, the word in german for charisma and radiation is the same).
"I'm a tight MC because I have burner to start and my rhymes fit like the hobos in the park. If you want to battle me I advice you to leave it be, because my battles sit(fit) like foreigner in custody pending deportation. And just like law suits against right wing extremists endures my rap carrer already several years.
    ---
too many rappers think MTV choses who rocks the party, but video-rotation and mediahype are like passengers in an distressed situation: they just pass.
And therefore I fuck clips with glitter and glamour I want to keep it down like the West the developing countries. I need a kick in the sampler and a cracking snare so my sound gets so dirty like the water in the sea. If we press a LP black like East-sea beaches and flat like the niveau of the TV program on weekends...."

etc. of course this doesn't do it any justice. My bad english and the fact that all the rhymes get lost through the translation, but they make one of the best non-gangster, entertaining rap music, imho.
