I doubt its bed bugs because you'd see other signs of them. I had this same problem about 2 years ago and I think it was why I originally posted on thesite! I was being bitten randomly for about a month, usually on my legs but there was nothing I could do about it and eventually it stopped. Its probably just a wee insect having a nibble, not too pleasant really but nothing too tragic

My advice: Hoover your mattress and cover yourself with insect repellant before bed. You might just be one of those people that the bugs love (like me). My boyfriend was with me nearly every night and he never got a single bite. Same as my dad, I'll get eaten alive by midgies in summer and he won't get touched. You probably just have nice tasting blood. Drink some beer and eat some marmite. Last resort cover yourself in clingfilm

i don't ever recall being bitten before in my life so i don't know that i'm one of these people who attract bugs that bite.

i think he (unless it was a lesbian) just liked my boobs. don't blame him really. :p

To be fair, if it's fleas you'll normally see the bites in groupings of two or threes where the flea has been feeding, is disturbed, and jumps to a new location close by to carry on feeding.

Most flea bites tend to have an odd itchy feeling along with them, kinda in the stomach, when pressed, though that could just be a result of my allergy.

Fleas will also be visable when fully grown, though harder to see than some bugs. Try leaving a bowl of water out on the bed when you go out, once a flea jumps in it'll be trapped, and you'll know for sure.

If you want to treat fleas then go to a pet shop. The treatments available in supermarkets, Boots, etc, simply do not work. You'll want a full strength flea spray from a vet. Someone could have brought them from home.

To be honest though - with the cold weather, it may just have been an insect dying from the cold and going crazy.

Keep an eye on whether any new bites appear as well - if it's fleas, or another infestation - you will get bitten again.

And just to be clear, I don't live in a manky flea infested house either - it's just that I used to work in a drop-in centre that had flea problems - and I'm bloody itching now! :grump:

    thank you.
    i don't think it's fleas.
    i hope not anyway!!

it's weird..there's 4 bits with a centre bit to them where it's bitten me and then other red bits coming off them and other red bits near it with no centre. hmm.

Sounds like it could just be a bad reaction to a wierd insect. I wouldn't worry too much unless it continues.

Think it might be helpful, if you're putting an image of an infection, to say what you're putting up.

    no!

it looks like a normal bite.

i.e. a red raised bit with a small centre where the skin has been pierced.

Don't know if they still do it but Boots used to sell a spray that has a mild insecticide, you spray it on to the curtains, bed, carpet etc and leave the room for a few hours with the windows open, you can try something like that.

I have exactly the same thing at the moment. I dont know what they are, but they are spreading. I cant have bed bugs as I have a new mattress, and I dont have any cats or what not, so unlikely (hopefully) to be fleas.

Im off to the doctors on Thursday so hopefully they will tell me what it is. I have been getting them off and on for about 2/3 months, but they are worse at the moment, and they are all over my tummy :(

I feel your pain Lucy, I really do!

    ohhh! :(

mine have gone down in redness but they're still quite visible and a bit scabby (niiiice!). hard to explain but you can see little red veins around them where they've sucked the blood.

    gross. :yuck: :sour:

Well yes I am an insect bite/vein expert in more spare time from work/gym/socialising. In fact I dont think there's anything I love to do more then being a insect bite/vein expert in more spare time as every man my age should be.

    ;)

the nice doctor told me my lumps are an allergy, and i thought they were bites. so it is a possibility yours might be too!
however, he did say that in only 10% of cases did people find out what's causing it.
