Film Club: Official Nominations Thread

Right, first ten suggestions get nominated, but only nominate, if you're actually gonna join in. There's some rules though. It has to be available fairly widely on DVD, so no cinema releases. Also, each nomination must be accompanied by a link to your film on imdb, and rotten tomatoes so everyone can see what the film's like.

Right, my nomination is Ghost World. I haven't seen it, but I've wanted to for a while. Here's the reviews.

Nominations so far:
Ghost World
Wag the Dog
The Dead Zone
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Betty Blue
Romper Stomper
City of God
Chopper
Crash (2004 version)
Amores Perros (Life's a bitch)

I would like to nominate The Dead Zone, it's a Stephen King adaptation by David Cronenberg, starring Christopher Walken. Doesn't get much better than that :thumb:

My computer isn't letting me do those posh link thingies (or I am an idiot?) so:

I don't know, it took me a while to work it out. Highlight the word you want, then click on the hyperlink button, and put your address in. Or have you done that already?

Romper Stomper with Russell Crowe, simply because somebody mentioned American History X which I think many people will have. This deals with similar issues but not so many people will have seen it. A good film but quite unpleasant.

Well I'm adding Chopper to the nominations. I was also merely showing my appreciation of Romper Stomper.

What's the idea of this then, everyone watches the film then discusses it?
If so, I'll join in, can't think of anything to nominate right now though. Maybe Crash? Although most people have probably seen that already.

Yep. We'll probably have a live chat, which they do every now and then, and then just discuss it in the thread. Pretty much the same as the book club really, but for people with less time.

Yay. Seconded. It *is* in Spanish but don't let that put anyone off, as not only is it subtitled, but a lot of it is visual. My ex couldn't read English very well but he still loved the film.

a film being foreign doesnt put me off in the slightest as long as its subtitled obviously.
Betty Blue is French, and has a lot of sex scenes and nudity, but I hope that doesnt put people off because thats not what its all about.

    Amores Perros (Life's a bitch)

    www.rottentomatoes.com/m/amores_perros

    www.imdb.com/title/tt0245712

It's set in Mexico City, it's three separate stories and lives which collide when a car crash takes place. It's really, really cool, makes you think (and has some hot men in...and cute dogs)

    Ma Vie En Rose

    IMDB

    Rotten

Good call on the Romper Stomper Skive. It's only £3 from big tescos I think. Have you heard of a movie where a jewish lad denies his roots and joins a neo-nazi group? I read a review of it once but then couldn't remember the title to go watch it...

I am also loving the fact that nearly all the films nominated aren't american and most are not even in english.

Someone needs to make a poll though so we can work out which one to watch!

Well there wouldn't be much point nominating big Hollywood things that most people would have already seen.

I like the idea of being recommended films that are foreign or old classics.

I have another nomination: American Desi. It's about a group of Indian students who end up being put in the same halls at an American university. Very funny.

Sorry, that was the 11th nomination, so it didn't get in this time.
