This comes from Stock Xchng though, so if you want to use it make sure you get it from there.
I really hope I'll get to Washington DC again sometime so I can see it live. Although I've seen a lot of Monet in Paris, I can't complain
I've been looking at some Francis Bacon again after he turned up in the news (one of his paintings is selling soon)
I like fauvism.
Banjo Lesson by Henry Ossawa Tanner.
I'm not really one for anything too abstract, I prefer to see pictures which tell stories, portray relationships or give you a taste of history.
This is called "John Joan and John at Cleethorpes" and it's really special to me because it's actually of my (great) aunt and uncle (in the blue and white stripy chairs). It's painted by John Yardley who is in fact one of their closest friends and a famous artist as well. My uncle was also a brilliant artist but never 'made it' like John Yardley did. He (my uncle) can't paint anymore though, after several strokes which is a real shame. I love this painting just because it's captured my aunt so beautifully, and with so few brush strokes. It's wonderfully understated and doesn't use many colours and even from that tiny picture I can tell it's her and it's just a perfect picture.
Anyone want to give me £950 to buy the original?
What the hell, if it's going to be a night where MoK leaves I can at least bring this thread back...
Here's one of my favourite paintings -
Faugh A Ballagh
There's a thread in anything goes - to put it simply I think he felt his children could benefit from this site an him being here would stop them using it - but hell in his honour go find an image you love and post it
Just found the post - mine are still toddling, so I've got a few years to go yet (and then I'll be damn well on the Site all the time to check they're not posting queries about knobs and oral sex:D )
